WebFOCUS Upgrade to 77

On November 17, 2012 WebFOCUS was upgraded to version 77.  Along with this new release the following events also occured:

* Migration from Solaris to Linux platform (new IP address)
* Authentication with MyFAU passwords instead of the Banner account

One of the features available with this release is a new format for producing Excel.  The new format coded as EXL07 provides Excel 2007 capabilities and will create files with the .xlsx extension.  This will allow you to easily open your Excel files without the requisite prompts you may have had in order to open the file.

NEW LOOK - NEW ENHANCEMENTS!

Over the next two weeks, templates will be updated with a new look and new enhancements.

Experienced DART BOARD users are invited to attend the session, "DART BOARD - Updates" on Friday, October 5 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in FL 411 for a review of these updates.

Highlights of the new templates offer:

Compatibility with Mozilla Firefox versions 3.5.7 and later.  Now in addition to Internet Explorer, users can utilize the Mozilla Firefox browser.  (Sorry Mac users... the Safari Browser still remains incompatible with this WebFOCUS release.)

Save all parameters on a template that can be used for subsequent requests.  Screen parameters can be shared with others.

The new look highlights the three actions required to launch a request:

1. Select Group and Sort Order

2. Select Filters

3. Run Request

The ability to Group and Sort your data on any field allows you to discover distinct values on any column.  Example:  Group your data by College and Program to find all the programs being offered in each college.

Enter your own custom filter on all templates:

A personal "Thank You" to DART BOARD users who have shared with me their DART BOARD experience and have recommended these enhancements.

Department and Campus code available on Academic_Study

One of the most frequently asked questions is how to group students by department. Effective with the new release of the ODS, this capability is now available. Reports accessing the Academic_Study views for FAU have the department and campus codes columns being populated. Now DART BOARD users may access the Academic Study Primary with GPA template (pictured above) to group students by department. The campus code will appear on the detail reports, Show Me All the Data and Create A Report.

New Template provides Information about available DART BOARD Templates!

To perform queries on DART BOARD templates and locate available reporting fields (i.e., columns), datasource, and/or templates (this is called metadata) and identify their application tab, please find under the General Utilities tab, under "Welcome" Business Concept the latest template named "DART BOARD Template Metadata".

The DART BOARD Template Metadata includes filters which will allow to discover where reporting fields, (i.e. columns) are located with their associated template, datasource, application tab and required Banner Security object. Discover which template you should be using for your reports.

A Cool Tip .... Entering more than one value in a text box

One of my favorite users (actually there are many of you) challenged me today with a need to enter more than one value in a text box. Specifically he wanted to specify multiple Course Reference Numbers on the Class Roll template. I discovered that this is possible if you enter the desired Course Reference Numbers as follows:

The rule to remember is that you will need to quote the values (provided they are alphanumeric fields) and concatenate them together with the word, "OR".

Happy filtering!
